On the eve of the Singapore Grand Prix, 29 YPO members in Singapore met with members of the McLaren team for the inside scoop on Formula 1 racing. Eric Boullier, Race Director for the McLaren Race team, shared his insights into the business of F1, how the racing world works, the leadership skills required, and a glimpse into behind-the-scenes operations of Race Day. Kok Leong from McLaren Applied Technology spoke about how data is used for design optimization and the predictive health for engines, with the hopes to leverage such technology for predictive health of people.
In this intimate setting, members were able to engage in a Q&A with Boullier and Leong, covering topics such as how the economic model works, the team culture, data management, and how to ensure success amongst competitive teams.
Championed by Maarten Buitelaar (YPO Singapore) and Bernardo Garcia–Manzano (YPO Guadalajara), this chapter event is thanks to YPO’s relationships with McLaren and UBS, Global Strategic Partner – Wealth Management. Part of a pilot program, chapters in Austin will be holding similar events around F1 races in the upcoming year.
“Our members like to understand unusual businesses and how they survive and thrive,” said Buitelaar, “Eric’s frank insights on how an F1 team is actually a very advanced, continuously disrupting tech company was fitting. Thank you McLaren and UBS to have supported us in this event as part of the global relationship you have with YPO.”
“I did not know there is so much more behind F1 racing and enjoyed learning how the F1 technology impacts our lives,” said Boudewijn Pesch (YPO Singapore).
