YPO member Crystal Lam grew up in the United States as a Vietnamese-American. She always knew some day she would live in Asia, but life kept her in California … for a while. After receiving degrees in rhetoric and international political economics at the University of California at Berkley, she set her sights on multinational companies in Hong Kong and China, but the turmoil of 2008 refocused her toward supporting her family’s business in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Crystal dug in at Vinawood first in business development and is now managing director. Now, with an MBA from the University of Chicago, Crystal is driving Vinawood’s international expansion forward. Under her guidance, Vinawood is one of Vietnam’s leading maker and distributors of wood products in more than 20 countries on three continents. In this episode, Crystal shares her reasons for leaving the United States and how she had to adapt and earn her way to run one of Vietnam’s leading wood production companies.
